What Tools Do I Need In My Garage Now

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

Garage Tools You Need

These are the Basic Tools I Use In My Garage and everyone should have. I am not going into tables, benches or shelves in this list, just the tools.

1. Bench Grinder

Every DIYer needs a Bench Grinder. Whether you are cutting metal, sharpening your own lawnmower blades or polishing a project you are working on, the Bench Grinder is #1 on my list. Purchase the 8 inch and spend a little more on a name brand. Also splurge for the one with a light mounted to it. The Grinder will last a lifetime if taken care of.

2. Air Compressor

Everyone needs an Air Compressor. Whether you are building projects using nail guns or working on cars using impact guns and air ratchets the Air Compressor comes in handy. Don't forget to purchase the needed items, hoses and fittings of course. If using it only for the garage or shop go for the 20 Gallon Air Compressor powered by 120 Volts so you can just plug it to a regular household electrical outlet. I have used the Craftsman brand Air Compressors for years and have been happy with them.

3. Shop Vacuum

The Shop Vac is needed to vacuum your cars and the garage floors or anything else for that matter. My wife regularly uses mine inside the home also. The wet and dry option is amazing and needed around the home. I prefer the 5 to 6.5 gallon Shop Vacuums. No need for the 10 gallon versions unless you are dealing with a heck of a lot of debris or water regularly. As with other tools there are a lot of different brands that make great Shop Vacuums. Check out the ones with a HEPA filter if you have allergies.

4. Shop Fan

Oh my goodness. I can not tell you how many times I needed one of these. The Garage will not get good air circulation and unless you are blessed with air conditioning in your shop or garage this is a must have. There are wall mount and standing models available.

5. Dust Collector

The Dust Collector is attached to certain tools in your garage to eliminate most of the dust that your tool makes. I do not have one of these but I have worked in Shops that do and they are amazing. If you have allergies the Dust Collector will help.

Summary

There are way to many tools to list for your garage but these are my basic. Do not forget your PPE when working in the Garage or Shop and be safe in everything you do.
