Tools To Replace A Porch Column Quickly
Updated: Jul 25, 2022
This list focuses on the tools needed to replace a Porch Column.

Porch Column Removal Tools
1. Circular Saw
The Circular Saw is needed to cut the new Column to install it properly.

2. Nail Puller
The Nail Puller is used to remove the nails from the old Column. Try not to go to cheap on this Tool. It will last a lifetime.

3. Level
The 4 foot level is an excellent option for plumbing up the new Column. Make sure to plumb both sides of the column.

4. Drill or Screwdriver Set
The Drill is used to remove any screws or fasteners on the old Column and also to install screws on the new Column. I prefer the Rechargeable version.

5. Hammer
I prefer a 3 pound Sledge Hammer for this application. A regular Claw Hammer will work but you will be doing a whole lot less beating with a heavier hammer.

Bonus Tool
Double 2x4 Wood Temporary Column
This is usually two 2x4 pieces of wood nailed together. Cut the 2x4s about 1/8 of an inch longer than Column you are removing. The Temporary Column will lift the Roof or beam enough to remove old column and replace with the new one.
