Tools To Change Your Outboard Lower Unit Oil
Updated: Jul 25, 2022
This is a simple task most any boater can complete. On a difficulty level I put it at a 2 out of 10. Just make sure you get it completely full and purchase the right lube and kit.

Changing Lube Oil In Outboard Foot
1. Screwdriver Set
Screwdriver will be needed to Remove the Oil Drain Screws from Lower Unit.

2. Hand Impact Driver
The Hand Impact Driver will be needed to Loosen the Lower Unit Oil Drain screws if you are unable to get it loose with a regular screwdriver. I usually just use this first to loosen the Drain Screw. A little tap is all it takes.

3. Hammer
The Hammer will be needed in conjunction with the Hand Impact Driver. Just do not hit it to hard.

4. Lower Unit Gear Oil Pump
The Lower Unit Gear Oil Pump will be needed to pump the new oil into the Lower Unit.
5. Oil Drain Pan
Use the Oil Drain Pan to hold the old oil that is drained from the Lower Unit.
BONUS TOOL
Lower Unit Screw Seals
You will need to get the ones that are specially designed for your Outboard. You can use the old one but I recommend replacing yearly.
